Amish Quality Handcrafted
Birdhouses & Bird Feeders

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the copper roof on the bird houses stay shiny?

No, the copper will turn to a patina over time unless it is treated with a copper protector.

Do you offer pre-treated copper roofs so that the copper won't change color?

Not at this time, although it is something we do plan to offer as an option soon.

Are these really built by the Amish?

Yes, these bird houses are constructed by a master Amish craftsman.

Will having Purple Martins in my yard get rid of my mosquito problem?

Purple Martins will eat a large variety of harmful insects, such as Wasps, Flies and Japanese Beetles, however, contrary to popular myth, Purple Martins or other birds are not an affective method for mosquito control, as they prey on higher flying insects, and not on low-flying primarily nocturnal mosquito's.

Other bird house sellers claim Purple Martins eat mosquito's, why don't you?

We are committed to providing quality products and quality answers. When we researched the subject we found that there had been a seven year study that showed Purple Martins do not eat any significant amount of mosquito's. There have not been any other studies to show otherwise. We believe that the quality of our products and answers speak for themselves.

What natural predators are there for mosquito's?

One natural predator for mosquito's are bats. Bats have been shown to eat between 450 to 1200 mosquito per hour. However, no mosquito control is 100 percent effective, and a pesticide-free approach most often requires a broad range of treatments, including elimination of artificial breeding sites, and the use of a variety of natural predators, from small fish and aquatic insects to bats.

How long does it usually take to receive a bird house or bird feeder?

These bird houses and bird feeders are built by Amish Craftsmen who live on "Amish" time. We will process your order and give it to the Amish craftsman to complete, but it may be a few days before it is completed. Therefore you should expect to receive your order usually within 7 to 10 days, or 10 to 15 days on the west coast (to allow for longer transit times). If you see that your order with Google Checkout or PayPal has been charged, that means that the Amish Craftsman has your order and is working on it. If your order has not been charged, give us a call, because for some reason your order hasn't been processed.

Is there a Returns and Refunds polity?

Yes, we do have a General Returns and Refunds policy. Click here to view.
